Ooohhhh dang it second playthrough that I’ll be busy for… I have finals right then. May still do this anyway, just a week or two late!

oh how I wish I could join but I’m so busy right now with diapers and other baby centered things. I haven’t had time to play anything since I got back from hospital. Not to mention sleeping has become something unreal.

Bottom line.

I don’t care if you like Wheatley. Or hate Wheatley. I don’t care if you want to bash his robot-y little brains out against the wall or sex him up in a feather boa and bright red pumps. With cherry flavored lip gloss.

At one point in the not so distant past, when I first joined the fandom, it would have bothered me because there’s so much to his astonishing selfishness and quirks that make him oddly likable—makes me wanna pick his robot brain to bits and find out what really makes the ID Core tick. But in light of recent events all I can say is that in the grand scheme of things, and least from my perspective, it doesn’t really matter whether you like or dislike a fictional character.

I can agree, that to some extent, the fandom does romanticize Wheatley. I can understand how that would frustrate a fan. All of the humans designs must come off as a sort of possessive way to make the character a sort of character of our own. Fine, I do not dispute that. But I’ve also seen some amazing things come from those designs: amazing fanart, wonderful fanfiction, animation and design, projects that are worth and insane amount of recognition that I think the Portal fandom doesn’t get enough of. Sure, we may abuse the whole concept of turning a robot into a human, but that’s just one of the many way a fandom enjoys itself. You think the portal fandom abuses the clone button? Fine, but don’t knock the artistic abilities of people who like this game. They’re seriously more amazing than even I may ever know.

And more to the point, in the long run, those artists will rise and become even better the more they draw or write or animate. If they keep up the hard work they put in the fandom into other activities, why, I personally believe that could do anything they set their minds to. I think that whether you dislike a character they like isn’t going to make a big difference in the long haul.

However.

What does matter is how you treat people in light of your own personal opinions.

You can hate a villain or a hero or a side character or a ship or— anything fictional! You can dislike it! More power to you on principle— and feel free to share what you like or dislike about a certain character— I swear you will find someone on here who would be happy to wax poetic with you for hours on end.

But when you dislike other people who like things that you don’t?

People who you haven’t even associated with online met in the real world?

And you go out of your way to be rude about it and throw words at them like boring and sexist…

…And without even knowing them as artists, as writers, as people…

Well then, that’s….. that’s honestly a very sad reason to dislike a certain specific number of people. It’s really nothing short of bigotry.

And frankly I wash my hands of people who think it’s a legitimate reason to spread hate. Especially seeing as your spreading it through a large body of people who actually exist outside of a book, movie, or videogame. Real people. With real talent and ideals.

I mean really, just find something better to do with your time.  Read a book. Punch a pillow. Play Portal.

And kindly leave my friends and assorted fellow online community alone, please.

Ladies, please, be grateful for these insightful scholars for showing us the way!  It is Wrong With Capital Letters to like a villain!  Don’t you see how heel face turns will lead us to being battered wives someday??  Our dozens of interpretations (which they won’t read because UGH PORTAL FANDOM=HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE) are each and every one of them disregarding of the original characterization!  

Allow them to educate us, because surely the fact that Wheatley is an antagonist has never occurred to us in all our discussions in all these 22 months since the game was released!

My fellow dear, simple, unenlightened females, Blu and her friend are just trying to introduce us to this NEW THING called FEMINISM which none of us have EVER CONSIDERED AT ALLLLL.
